HP has managed to enter the netbook market with its HP 2133 Mini-Note model. It has the potential to be one of the most successful mini-laptops on the market, with a 8.9 “screen and 1280×768 resolution, solid keyboard (92% of the size of a standard laptop), WiFi and Bluetooth, and finished in brushed aluminum, it is a recipe for a serious contender for netbooks already established, on sales of slightly more than the leading Asus Eee PC 901 someĀ£ 350.
Unlike other models, which is a bit “toy-like” seems in comparison, the 2133 designed for durability with an attractive brushed aluminum top and magnesium body. A scratch resistant screen with an innovative treatment on the surface of the notebook LCD display “more robustness increases, even though they knew was, for the people, this” treatment “also find reflective, especially outdoors, which leads to poor overall image quality .
The enhanced framework does notTake the size and weight, especially higher than other similarly sized Netbooks, compared with 1.27 kilograms of 0.99kg for the Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee PC 900, and 1.1 kilograms for the newer Asus Eee PC 901 – the are small differences.
You can find the 2133 Mini-Note with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, Windows Vista and XP, although most models are the Linux and Vista Business Edition.
A welcome bonus with the largerMini-note is the large surface area. HP says that the keyboard “is 92% full size,” far away from competing models. The touchpad is reasonable, and in an effort to optimize storage space, are the mouse buttons on the sides is, similar to Acer Aspire One. I have this somewhat cumbersome, however, be given the trade-off for the bigger keyboard, it seems to be a better model, especially for writing.
It has, however hopeless CPU performance and battery life (for the 3-cells –Version, as little as one and a half hour!) To undermine the truly outstanding features of the model. The HP 2133 Mini-Note has a ridiculous boot time, as long as a boat and a half minutes (after 20 seconds, up from cold on the Eee PC 901 adapted).
There is also the question of whether one could “upgrade” to a 10-inch mini laptop bulkiness of the overall picture of the Mini-Note 8.9 in comparison to other inchers. The slightly larger Asus Eee PC 1000could be more productive. Yes, it is slightly larger in all dimensions, but it has the added benefit of 8 hours of battery life and greatly improved performance. Likewise, the MSI Wind, another 10 inch model can could also be taken into consideration.
As a result, there are many nice features of the HP 2133 Mini-Note, the keyboard, the smarter look and feel, high-resolution screen and a good connection. However, the poor performance and battery life will always hinder the user. In general, the Mini is note good buyIf you do not run demanding applications (eg word processing, is in the case of the large keyboard is practically giving), but otherwise, the Acer or Asus is the way forward.
But not all is lost! HP launches an updated mini-laptop trio, as part of the HP 1000 Mini brand. Promising improved performance of an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, both 8.9 and 10.2 inch screens and tests of the MacBook Air in less than an inch thick, with a weight of 1 kg more. There is little news about the improvement ofBattery life, but I suspect that some improvement is shown when it comes out in the United Kingdom in January 2009. But it is already in the U.S. retailing at $ 399, and has its own mini-website
